Audio, video, photo - trade-off proposed

Audio...FINALLY is embedded in my Capstone project. I estimate that I, literally, have eight hours in investigating audio. Here's the deal, though.
I left my sacred notebook with my notes, log-ins, and details I need to write a good blog entry at Scotty's house. When I got to my apartment at 9:45, I knew that and opted to pick up my sunglasses, CamelBak water bottle, and the sacred notebook in the morning.
Soooo, instead of finishing my two entries - the audio, video, photo one AND the embedded entry, I'll write those in the morning and, instead, read, rate, and respond to the masses tonight. I may be able to compose a brief embed entry...just won't have the details for the AVP entry.
But first, off to reading, rating, and responding!

C'est fini!

What a day! An efficiency expert would have a heart attack even to see this in print! I worked this morning on the audio, ran errands, then went to my friend Scotty's house to use her iMac for the contest audio. Four hours later, I had the track uploaded and posted on the website.

I must acknowledge that my sound man, Chuck, son of Scotty, came to my rescue. Scotty's iMac allowed me to record several tracks in GarageBand, and I spent far too much time choosing the bass, guitar, and drum options. However, even with tech support from Chuck via phone in Greensboro, I was not able to change the format of my files from ail (??, that sounds sick!) to MP3 files. His software version was different from Scotty's, so we had challenges in communication.

The onlie GarageBand tutorial showed a drop-down option that wasn't available and I didn't find the help menu to be as helpful as I needed it to be. I counld not find a preference setting that would allow me to change whatever default was in place. However, I did give Chuck, my official sound man in RL his script: "The contest is over!" He promptly e-mailed it to Scotty, and I uploaded it to Soundboard. So, I have a sound bit that I created, although circuitiously and very costly in person-hours, and I was able to embed it on my CMSimple page in the capstone project.

The track is entitled "C'est fini!"

Yippee! Anne

Sound bites!

Yep, that's right. Not sound bytes! I don't have those, nor does the autio technician who's been working on this capstone project since 7 or so this morning. Says he's a whiz, promises to deliver...so I give him d.i.'s checklist.

Audacity is downloaded....Lame is FINALLY in the right place and I've carefully recorded the contest intro after several takes. Audio techician didn't want to have to edit the sound track so any time I made a mistake (and I made three), we had to start over.

First, he lost the LAME folder (how lame is that?)...then, he joyfully announced that he'd converted the audio to MP3 format. Good...only one more step...upload the stuff to ODEO so the audio can be on the website where it's supposed to be. Embedded audio is a plus, right?

I admit to being confused when the tech guy showed me the ODEO web page. One would expect to see a tab that allows one to input something...I saw an online slideshow tutorial recently that clearly circled a "my audio: tab. Well, the only "my audio" that the tech guy heard this morning was MY AUDIO when I asked him, perhaps not so politely, where the CONTEST audio was. When we talked Monday, he was rushed, but said he could "take care of it."

I'm seriously thinking of creating a video in the dark and uploading it, except then could I call it audio since there would be no video?

Running a national contest is NOT as easy as I thought it would be. Sometimes it seems like I'm the only one doing the work...multiple personalities, some of which are NOT competent. Hard to fire myself, though!

At least the tech guy had sense enough to e-mail colleagues for help, including the folks at ODEO. I'm concerned, however, that e-mail support from a company of that size might not support me meeting our deadlines.

I have done what I can do, though. Time for breakfast. And maybe a nap. A nap and breakfast sound wonderful!

Cheers and good luck with the contest entry!

news release

Memo sent for news release that goes out in 10 minutes... Hurry!

(Internal memo: Gary, see that this hits the air tonight at 11:00 PM EDT sharp! Your boss!!!)

Win-A-Trip! Contest invitation

Update: less than 21 hours remain for contestants to complete their Win-A-Trip entries. YouTube has expanded account access to facilitate the increase in uploads anticipated by entrants for the conclusion of this 3-day event.

Review contest rules to ensure your entry meets the guidelines.

Best wishes to all!

Mead Map agrees to sponsor hiking snacks

What awesome news tonight! After I posted the MeadMap plan for the contest online, I was notified that my MeadMap was the 1,000,000,000th MeadMap created and posted for public viewing. As a result, MeadMap has agreed to donate the funds for organic snacks, bottled water, walking sticks, hats, and 30 SPF shirts for the winner and his/her traveling companions. The company has feely given $5k for those items so I'll be contacting suppliers who can ship the goods to whatever national park is the winning destination. MeadMaps will also provide shipping tubes and mail the hiking sticks back to the winners' homes so the airlines won't confiscate the metal-tipped poles as weapons.

Ooooh! What a delightful surprise! (Hmmm. Almost used four tildes to sign this post!)

#capstone Audio clips

Audio tracks are in the works - support for auditory learners. The first track supports the welcome page, while the second one reads the "help" page. The tech crew has been swamped today answering all the phone calls. Someone not only tweeted the number, but it ended up an an RSS feed. I think I even heard our number was floating around Digg today. Oh boy! I'm not sure an organization of our size is cut out for this. It feels more like Larry, Moe, and Curly than Me, Myself, and I!

I/We'll keep you posted! Watch for updates!

Quiet morning

I have a support team that's taking care of the volume of entries for the contest. All's quiet here!

Capstone Project: Take-You-Out Outfitters Welcomes You!: ASU capstone: YouTube posts

Capstone Project: Take-You-Out Outfitters Welcomes You!: ASU capstone: YouTube posts

ASU capstone: YouTube posts

Busy, busy morning. After limited sleep, I donned my sunglasses and went out to record my first post of the morning. Minutes later, my cell phone rang. To my surprise, I was speaking with Iniga Montoya. (I knew her brother, Inigo, in college, but she was much younger...When we asked about his family, he was somewhat secretive. After having a few under his belt, he'd speak of a miracle pill...who can know?!) She excitedly said she'd sent in her "Win A Trip!" entry and that she'll tweet later in the day. I've posted both videos to YouTube... Iniga's entry is embedded on the "Win A Trip" webpage.

I searched for the introductory YouTube posting that announces this contest that's taking us over by storm...I don't see it. Perhaps it's uploaded as "private." Thank goodness for RSS, tweets, and blogs. The WORD is out!!!

Enjoy, and happy contesting!
Anne

Capstone

Moving forward nicely with the capstone project...reviewed ideas from classmates and moved my emphasis to CMSimple, which made the project SO MUCH simpler. Thanks!!!
Started the contest overview...think I may have four full pages completed...explaining the contest, rules, how to enter. It's been a hoot! I put a disclaimer on the top of the blog I created today because I'd already invited family and friends to read the blog. Now I've got to redirect them to the CMSimple site. I'll do that in the morning.

Capstone project started

Right brain, left brain...my movements are often circuitous. Soooo, I've begun the capstone project. Modified the blog page I put up this morning and am having trouble finding a way to turn off the Slide show on that page. It keeps playing and playing. So much for me learning how to embed code!!! I actually know it's not the code's problem, just want to be able to have it play only once. The only people who won't be offended by that will be those with a VERY short short-term memory!

My capstone project is a fictious contest where entrants explore facts about the National Parks and complete entries in which they talk about which park they'd like to visit and why. Fictiuos prize: 10 day all-expense-paid-trip to any national park in the US.

I need to set up some twitter responses and post a news blast...hmmmm.

My brain's fried. Might need to sleep a bit on some of my ideas!

Glacier

I've been fortunate to visit several national parks throughout my life. In the summer of 2008, I had the pleasure to backpack and hike in Glacier National Park.

Enjoy my Slide show of selected photos from that outing.

Happy hiking, TD!

Treasure Terra Firma - a start

Good morning!

Those of you who know me well know that I treasure the time I have outdoors and in the wild. Whether I'm hiking in Glacier, traipsing a part of the AT, or swimming in the Jackson River, my outdoor time soothes my soul and renews my spirit.

As part of the Web 2.0 graduate class I'm currently taking at ASU, I am working this week on a project I'm entitling "Treasure Terra Firma." I initially started with the idea of creating a "Green Day" event, then moved to rallying the troops around getting children, teens, and adults into the wilderness so that we have support in the future for our planet and our wilderness area and parks. I've finally settled on the following.

Please help me connect with some of your favorite spots where you've hiked, kayaked, backpacked, and traveled around the US and the world. If you wish to send photos, let me know whether I can post them on my blog or not, and include the location (specific or relative) of your shot.

My personal goal: to head to a new spot (for me) with a friend quarterly and to share that experience on this blog. I encourage you to do that same so that we can amass a list of great places to visit and explore individually and perhaps with each other.

Thank you for participating!

Love, Anne

I hope you enjoy YouTube's "The Discovery of the Last Child in the Woods."
